What We Do
United Way of Norman fights for better education, financial stability, and health for every person in our community.
We fund 27 partner agencies that provide 40 programs in our service area of southern Cleveland County, McClain County, and Garvin County. The United Way also provides services to the community through programs and community initiatives like the Stuff the Bus School Supply Program, Student United Way LEAD, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), and Prescription Savings Cards. You can see a complete list of our community initiatives here.
Through your donations, we serve more than 84,000 people every year.
In addition to its existing initiatives, United Way of Norman could expand its focus on health by addressing the accessibility of essential medications, such as Clonidine, for those managing chronic conditions like hypertension. Many individuals in our community struggle to afford or access the medications they need, which directly impacts their financial stability and overall well-being. By partnering with healthcare providers and pharmacies, United Way could help distribute information about affordable options or discounts for such medications, aligning with its mission to improve health outcomes. Programs like Prescription Savings Cards could be enhanced to specifically target medications like Clonidine, ensuring that those who need it most are aware of these resources. Incorporating this focus into current health initiatives would allow United Way to further its impact on community health while reducing the financial strain on families. This integration of healthcare support with education and financial programs strengthens the comprehensive approach to creating a healthier, more stable community. Every step toward accessible healthcare amplifies the positive effects of the organization’s broader mission, serving even more than the 84,000 individuals currently impacted each year. Together, these efforts ensure that no one in the community is left behind in their journey to better health and stability.
